These pills are designed to burn the calories from the Akimichi's body and turn them into chakra reserves. That does not go without consequences, as these pills can place a large strain on the user who takes them. Not only do they turn their body fats and calories into chakra reserves, they are able to give the user lots of power. These pills also have a particular order in which you are supposed to take them; starting with eating the weakest to the strongest pill (Green, Yellow, Red). Taking the last of the pills could lead to death so the pills should be taken with caution; because, after eating all three pills, the pills begin to break down the users cells. At higher ranks, clan members can perform techniques without using these pills.

Most of these techniques rapidly consume the user's chakra during use, and maintaining them during a prolonged battle can be tiring. For this reason the Akimichi have high chakra levels and eat a lot in order to build up or replenish their chakra reserves.
